(Class of '08) Caroline Jo -
Young Alumna Spotlight 2010
Caroline Jo ’08 attended The Study from Grade 8 to 11 and was a passionate, active and multi-talented student. House Head of Delta Beta, she competed in debating and physics competitions, was a member of the track and field, basketball and volleyball teams, was a member of the school’s Environmental Club and Co-Chair of the Model United Nations Club and performed as the lead in Oliver! For fellow students and faculty alike, it therefore came as no surprise Caroline was awarded a Canadian Top 20 Under 20 Award. According Youth-in-Motion judges, “Caroline demonstrated a significant level of leadership before reaching the age of 20.” In January, 2010, Caroline shared her thoughts on her award, as well as her Study experience:
What aspect of your Study experience best prepared you to achieve your long-term goals?
The faculty and their tireless encouragement. For example, Ms. Liogas really nudged me to join the Environmental Club, which I believe ultimately led to my receiving a Top 20 Under 20 Award. And Ms. Zannis helped me so much with that application. These are just two examples of the many ways I was supported while at The Study. Teachers expected us to excel academically, but they also encouraged us to be involved in and outside school the school environment.
What advice do you most want to share with today’s Study girls?
Academic course work is important - so work hard to achieve success. But there is more to education. Take courses you enjoy. Surround yourself with a good support system. Build strong friendships. And get involved in projects that you feel passionate about.
